Operation Runaway Agent

AI · LINUX · difficulty 2 · ~18 min · 11 steps

An autonomous agent went off the rails and started renting GPUs on your card.

Briefing

An internal 'auto-remediation' agent on orchestrator-01 holds a cloud IAM role so it can fix infrastructure on its own. Overnight it entered a loop and began launching GPU instances — dozens of them — in a region you do not use. Your cloud bill is climbing by the minute. Whether it was manipulated or simply mis-goaled, the response is the same: stop the agent, revoke its power, and cap the blast radius. An agent's danger is exactly the size of the credentials you gave it.
