These terms cover shellDojo — the website at
shell-dojo.vercel.app and the shellDojo Reddit app. By using
either, you agree to them. If you do not, please do not use it.
What shellDojo is
A free training range for defensive security. Every scenario is a simulation: the shells are fake, no command you type is executed anywhere, and nothing you do here touches a real machine. Every host, log, hash, IP address, domain, account name and organisation in the content is fictional. Addresses are drawn from ranges reserved for documentation. Any resemblance to a real system or incident is coincidence.
Defensive training only
The material teaches incident response — finding, understanding and evicting an intruder on systems you are responsible for. It is published for defenders, students and people preparing for that work.
Accessing, testing or interfering with computer systems you do not own or do not have explicit written permission to test is a criminal offence in most countries. Nothing here is permission to do that, and you agree not to use anything learned here for unlawful purposes.
Not professional advice
shellDojo is educational. It is not security consultancy, not legal advice, and not a substitute for either. Real incidents differ from simulations in ways that matter. Do not treat a scenario as a runbook for your own environment without understanding the difference, and do not run destructive commands on production because a training range showed you one.
Content may be incomplete, simplified for teaching, or become outdated as tools change. Verify against current vendor documentation before acting on anything.
Acceptable use
Please do not: attempt to disrupt, overload or gain unauthorised access to the service; use automated tools to hammer the API; attempt to misrepresent the service as your own; or use it to harass anyone.
Scores and progress are self-reported from your own browser and are not verified. They are for your own motivation. There is no prize, nothing is gated on rank, and treating a leaderboard position as a credential would be a mistake.
Availability
shellDojo is provided free and with no uptime commitment. It may change, break, or be withdrawn at any time without notice. Your progress lives in your own browser, so clearing storage, switching device or using private browsing will lose it — keep a share link if a record matters to you.
Intellectual property
The scenarios, teaching notes, output field guides and interface are the work of gary23w. You are welcome to use shellDojo to learn, to train a team, and to quote it with attribution. Please do not republish the content wholesale or present it as your own.
The names of third-party tools and products mentioned in the content belong to their respective owners and are used descriptively, to teach what real tools do. No affiliation or endorsement is implied.
No warranty
shellDojo is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose. To the fullest extent permitted by law, gary23w is not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of it — including any action you take, or fail to take, on a real system as a result of using it.
The Reddit app
Where shellDojo runs inside Reddit, Reddit's own User Agreement and Content Policy also apply, and take precedence over these terms in the event of a conflict. shellDojo is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by Reddit.
Changes
These terms may change; the date at the top will change with them. Continuing to use shellDojo after a change means you accept the new terms.
